MEXICO CITY
Eating Out
I had never been to Mexico City, also known as CDMX, an acronym for Ciudad de Mexico, Spanish for Mexico City, before this year, and it was so good, that now I am going back, like immediately.
The Food scene is insane. This one city houses two of the Worlds Top 50 restaurants and the only ones that made the list in all of Mexico. I didn’t know what to expect, so I reached out to every Foodie I knew who either lives in CDMX or has been, and asked them for all their recommendations, there just wasn’t enough days to hit everything, but I wanted to share what stood out.
TACOS
Stop # 1. El Turix (Taquería El Turix)
Address: Av. Emilio Castelar 212, Polanco, Polanco III Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11550 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
Located in the Polanco district of Mexico City and as of today, is the best taco I have ever had. Its a total hole in wall, but I knew it had to be good because everyday there is a line up the block. They are famous for their cochinita pibil, Yucatán-Style Barbecued Pork - it’s also the only thing they served. It’s perfect. For over 30 years, they have been making this pork. Don’t be scared by the taco master using his hands to make your taco’s - it’s what makes these the best.
WHAT TO ORDER: cochinita pibil everything. There are the tacos of course, but don’t miss the panucho, which is a tostada with beans spread on it, then fried and topped with pork. There is also a torta, which everyone seemed to be getting. Make sure to use their habanero salsa, it’s the real deal, I would ship this home if I could.
Located in Centro, not far from the Historic Center of Mexico City, is this stand that was Anthony Bourdain’s taco spot. It all makes sense now.
